Brightline West: What You Need to Know About the Upcoming High-Speed Rail System
Las Vegas to Southern California in just over two hours? Sounds like a dream, right? Well, Brightline West is making that dream a reality. After years of planning, the high-speed rail system held its groundbreaking ceremony in April, signaling the start of major construction on the much-anticipated project.
But what exactly is Brightline West, and how will it impact your trips between Las Vegas and Southern California? Here’s a fun and informative breakdown of what you need to know about the high-speed rail that’s set to revolutionize travel in the West.
What’s the Price Tag?
Brightline West isn’t cutting any corners when it comes to creating a world-class rail system. The total cost for the project is estimated at a whopping $12 billion. That’s for 218 miles of high-speed track, new stations in Las Vegas and California, and a maintenance facility in Sloan, Nevada.
Where Will the Las Vegas Station Be?
Conveniently located near Las Vegas Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road, the station is just a short distance from the Strip and Harry Reid International Airport. It’s also close to Interstate 15, making it easy for travelers to access by car.
Where Will It Take You?
Brightline West will take passengers from Las Vegas all the way to Rancho Cucamonga, California. But if your final destination is Los Angeles, no problem! You’ll be able to hop on a Metrolink train in Rancho Cucamonga and reach downtown L.A. in about 50 minutes. For most of the route, the train will operate in the median of Interstate 15, with a small portion on the Nevada side running east of the interstate.
How Long Will the Trip Take?
Pack a snack, because the ride from Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga will take just two hours and 10 minutes! That’s much quicker than driving—plus, you won’t have to deal with traffic. Heading into L.A.? Add an additional 50 minutes to your travel time.
When Will It Be Ready?
While construction is set to begin later this year, the high-speed rail is expected to take about four years to complete. Brightline is aiming to have everything up and running by the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Just imagine zipping to L.A. to catch an Olympic event without ever hitting the brakes!
How Fast Will It Go?
Hold on to your hats! Brightline West’s trains will reach speeds of up to 200 mph. That’s faster than you’d drive on Interstate 15—unless you have a need for speed (which we don’t recommend)!
Job Creation? You Bet!
Once up and running, Brightline West will create around 1,000 permanent jobs, with the majority of those being union-represented positions. It’s not just a win for travelers; it’s also a win for the local job market.
What’s the Experience Like?
Expect premium service! Passengers will be treated to delicious food, beverages, and cocktails both onboard and in the stations. Plus, you’ll stay connected with Wi-Fi available in stations and on the train. Whether you’re working remotely or streaming your favorite show, you’re covered.
How Much Will It Cost?
As for ticket prices, Brightline founder Wes Edens says it’s still too early to talk numbers. But given the convenience, time savings, and premium experience, it’s sure to be worth every penny!
