January 22, 2023, is the start of the Lunar New Year and goes through February 5. Downtown Summerlin will present its annual Lunar New Year Parade to honor Southern Nevada’s rich Asian heritage.
This year is the Year of the Rabbit, and the always imaginative event includes pre-parade festivities that start at 5 p.m., followed by the parade on Park Centre Drive at 5:30 p.m. The parade consists of fan dancers, an oversized dragon, percussionists, and the traditional lion dance The parade is free and open to the public, and it is hosted by Downtown Summerlin in collaboration with the Guan Strong Lion Arts Association.
Lunar New Year décor will adorn Downtown Summerlin’s common areas from January 22 through February 5, including giant 2023 letters in the Macy’s Promenade, a larger-than-life Chinese dragon in the dining arroyo, and an insta-worthy photo wall located in the hallway near H&M.
There will also be a red envelope giveaway through the Summerlin app on January 23–27 that is hosted by Downtown Summerlin. Guests have an opportunity to receive a complimentary red envelope filled with chocolate coins and surprise gift cards while supplies last. You can redeem the red envelopes at Concierge, located under the Breezeway of ONE Summerlin.
This is Downtown Summerlin’s sixth year of celebrating the Lunar New Year, with interest in and participation in the event growing each year. The Lunar New Year celebration is a fun way to kick off the new year while honoring our city’s Asian heritage and culture.
