White paint is always a good option for the walls in your home as you might want to refresh the look in your home or when moving into a new home. You might not be aware there are many hues of white paint.
The tone of a room can be set with the right tone of the white paint, perhaps more than any other color. Together with lighting, accents, furniture, and artwork, it can make a space read as anything from charming and cozy to brilliantly minimalist according to Architectural Digest.
If you want to give your home a face-lift with white paint, here are some mistakes to avoid while choosing your paint color.
Your home may be a blank canvas. However, experts advise homeowners to select a shade of white that’s soft instead of brilliant. They also say mixing a third of magnolia — named for the flower — with two-thirds white provides a more natural, muted effect. Make sure you bring lots of paint swatches home with you since your home’s lighting is different from the lighting in the store.
White paint can make a room look bigger, however, be careful when using it to add brightness to a dark space. White in a room with very little natural light will often look dirty and depressing. It might be better to embrace the lack of light and choose a color with some hue, using a mid-tone or even dark color.
