Reportedly the major league baseball team the Oakland Athletics are very interested in the Tropicana hotel site to build a potential ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip.
There are also two other sites that the A’s are also in the running, one owned by Wynn Las Vegas and the other by Caesars Entertainment. This information comes from a report on Wednesday from CNBC.
This is all very hush-hush since all involved – Bally’s Corp., which owns the Tropicana Las Vegas, and the officials for the A’s, Wynn and Caesars all declined to comment.
A’s President Dave Kaval said the team had put an offer on a site where it could look to build a $1 billion Major League ballpark, however he did not reveal which site it was.
If the Tropicana site ends up to be where the ballpark gets built, it would add another popular venue that is near huge event spaces on the south portion of the resort corridor. Within walking distance of the possible 30,000-35,000-seat stadium would be Allegiant Stadium, T-Mobile Arena, the MGM Grand Garden arena and Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.
In May, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred okayed the Oakland A’s to start looking at Las Vegas as a potential landing spot for relocation from Oakland. This decision from the league’s occurred as the A’s were negotiating with Oakland officials over a deal for a $12 billion mixed-use project that would include a waterfront ballpark at the Port of Oakland’s Howard Terminal.
Beside the Strip properties, A’s officials are known to have looked at sites in Henderson and Summerlin within the last month. Howard Hughes Corp. holds multiple plots of land in Summerlin
Lots of decisions to be made, so we will be watching this closely and report back when a final site has been decided upon.
