By summer, Cameron Mitchell’s dream of opening an Ocean Prime restaurant on the Strip will become a reality.
At CityCenter on Harmon Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants will unveil an upscale seafood and steakhouse brand in June atop the four-story complex known as 63.
During an exclusive tour of the under-construction restaurant on Thursday, Mitchell said the company is investing nearly $20 million in the new flagship location.
The restaurant is located at one of the busiest intersections in the country, so the significant capital investment we’re making in it is justified.
It will span over 14,500 square feet, including nearly 2,500 square feet of rooftop terrace seating.
With premium trims, plush seating, and unique “bells and whistles,” Mitchell considers it a respite from the Strip. Among the amenities at the Vegas restaurant are champagne and lounge seating in the women’s restrooms, gin-and-tonic service on the table, caviar service, and unique menu items like hot seafood towers.
“This is Vegas, right? You need to be a good restaurant just to compete,” Mitchell said. “It’s not for timid or meek people, so you’ve got to stand out, do something unique. How many places pull a cart up to your table and ask if you’d like a gin and tonic?” “You might not really want one, but you’ll get it when you see it.”
During the Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix, Nov. 16-18, Ocean Prime is already full. The guests paid “millions” for all-you-can-eat access to the restaurant for lunch and dinner. As part of the construction of the grandstands overlooking the 11th turn of the racetrack, its rooftop terrace will be cleared of its four decorative olive trees by crane rental for three days.
The space will be occupied by 62 other tenants.
It is expected that the remaining 11 tenants of the retail complex, owned by Las Vegas developer Brett Torino and New York-based Flag Luxury Group, will move in beginning in May.
Among the tenants at the project are the South Korean immersive media art exhibit Arte Museum, Agora Cosmetics, Welcome to Las Vegas gift shop, Ross discount retailer, Museum of Illusions, and Fat Tuesday restaurant.
In April 2021, the team acquired 63’s 2-acre site for about $80 million.
Torino and Flag Luxury Group own another shopping mall across the street, Harmon Corner, which has an LED sign above a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant. 63 has a 6,000-square-foot LED billboard too.
