The Sphere’s Las Vegas debut has created a buzz around the world. It is not like anything you have ever seen before and that is just the outside. like none other.
It started the weekend before July 4th. All of a sudden the outside lights went on and the Sphere said “Hello World”. Then there was a light show as they were testing the millions of lights outside.
On the Fourth of July there was a spectacular display rivaling fireworks on the Vegas Strip, and people were mesmerized by the color, the motion, and the variety. Everything about the images that night and what Las Vegas saw in the days following as Sphere dazzled Las Vegas is a build-up to the Sept. 29 event. The “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere” taking the venue to new heights. That’s the first of 25 sold-out performances extending into December. And that is just the outside.
There is a massive interior LED display plane that was being installed last February. At that time, a crucial step in construction involved work on the “mohawk” section — so named because of how it arches in a strip from behind the center of the stage up 240 feet above the floor, reaching behind the seating area.
The sections higher up are partially supported by catwalks that connect to the underside of the domed roof, which is how the nearly four-acre LED display will eventually wrap up, over and behind the audience to create a completely immersive visual environment,
You need that much steel to support the 160,000-square-foot LED screen. That’s about 4 acres of video. Nick Tomasino, senior vice president of construction for MSG Entertainment, stated “The entire LED on the inside is the size of three football fields and will have the highest resolution in the world.”
Plus there is the 170,000-speaker HOLOPLOT multi-layered audio system.
And let’s not forget there is space for people, too. Seating for 17,500 includes 23 private suites — all inside a domed monitor to provide an immersive experience.
If you were enthralled by the 580,000-square-foot “exosphere” get ready for a high-res experience like nothing you’ve ever seen on the inside. The Sphere was built for entertainment, not sports.
The Sphere at The Venetian Resort is a spherical music and entertainment arena near the Las Vegas Strip and east of the Venetian Resort. The project was announced by the Madison Square Garden Company in 2018, and construction was underway the following year.
Postcard from Earth
Postcard from Earth, a Sphere Experience, is the very first show created to take full advantage of the 22nd century technology inside Sphere. It’s going to be unreal. It is an original immersive production directed by Darren Aronofsky and is scheduled to premiere on October 6.
U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere
U2 is returning to the stage for a special run of shows marking their first live outing in four years. U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere is an out-of-this-world live music experience that will see the world’s biggest rock band launch the world’s most cutting-edge venue, The Sphere.
Don’t be surprised if you hear that Harry Stiles will be booked to perform at The Sphere. There has been a lot of buzz about this.
