You are finally moving to a new home. This is a very exciting time for you and your family. However, you have to make sure the old house is empty and clean for the new owners. Cleaning the old house doesn’t have to be a dreaded task, though.
The following is a moving cleaning list that will help you get your old house in tip-top shape—so you can look back and smile. For the most thorough cleaning, move down this list in order.
Bedrooms
- Get rid of any trash and cobwebs.
- Clean windows, blinds, and mirrors.
- Dust light fixtures, closets, baseboards, windowsills, and shelves.
- Spot clean walls, doors, trim, and shelves.
- Vacuum or steam clean your floors. Dust off ceiling fans and fixtures.
- Remove any nails and use spackle to fill any holes.
Laundry Room
- Get rid of any trash and cobwebs.
- Clean the sink, windows, and exterior of the washer and dryer.
- Use a vacuum or extendable duster to remove lint from vents.
- Dust baseboards, windowsills, and shelves.
- Spot clean walls, doors, trim, and shelves.
- Vacuum or steam clean the floor.
- If the dryer is removed, block off the vent to keep bugs or animals out.
Living Room
- Get rid of any trash and cobwebs.
- Clean windows and blinds.
- Dust light fixtures, stair rails, baseboards, and windowsills.
- Vacuum or steam clean the floor.
- Remove any nails and use spackle to fill any holes.
- Dust off ceiling fans and fixtures.

Kitchen and Dining Room
- Dust baseboards, windowsills, shelves, and behind appliances.
- Deep clean the sink (including hardware) and appliances.
- Clean and disinfect countertops and floors.
- Quick-clean cabinets and drawers.
- Wipe down pantry shelves and the floor.
- Spot clean walls, doors, trim, and shelves.
- Clean light switches and outlets.
Bathrooms
- Clean the shower and tub to remove soap scum and grime.
- Clean toilets, sinks, and hardware.
- Clean windows and mirrors.
- Dust blinds, light fixtures, baseboards, windowsills, and shelves.
- Clean cabinets, drawers, countertops, and floors.
- Dust and clean fan vents.
- Clean light switches and outlets.
