Howard Hughes Corporation CEO David O’Reilly announced that the company will spend $700 million on building a movie studio in Summerlin.
In Summerlin South, at Flamingo Road and Town Center Drive, the 60-acre project will include about 500,000-600,000 square feet of studios, a hotel site, a back office, and a retail village.
Another studio is in the works at the Harry Reid technology park. This studio is called Zone One in the bill, which was announced weeks ago. In addition to serving as an educational pipeline for UNLV film students, the facility would also have an $8 million training facility. Off the 215 Beltway, this would be built at Durango Drive and Sunset Road.
They discussed the opportunity to offer tax credits for film production in southern Nevada with legislators and Governor Lombardo in Carson City on Tuesday.
Southern Nevada will be transformed by the construction of these movie studios. A generational opportunity exists to diversify and transform our city. Sony has committed to $1 billion in filming over a 10-year period in order to build new studios that will create 10,000 construction jobs.
It will not only create jobs, but it will also teach people how to work with related equipment. Over 6,800 new permanent jobs will be created by bringing in movie studios.
